In China found the wine two thousand years of aging

A real sensation for lovers of alcohol: during archaeological excavations of the ancient tombs in China found a sealed jar of liquid. Experts believe that the age of this tank for at least 2 thousand years. But the main thing – inside is not just water, and old booze.

This bronze jug found during excavations of a burial of a man belonging to the era of the Qing dynasty, which ruled the country from 221 to 206 BC. Inside the jar there are about 300 milliliters of yellowish-white liquid. Chemical analysis, according to experts, gives reason to believe that the inside of the jug honey liqueur or wine.

The present discovery can add to a virtual collection of “prehistoric” alcoholic beverages that have survived to our time.

For example, from the holds of the ancient vessel that sank off the coast of France nearly 2500 years ago, divers have raised about $ 800 sealed bronze amphora. In each of them contained 30 liters of wine beverage. However, the taste there were no volunteers. After all, for tens of centuries, wine was stored in bronze vessels and probably heavily oxidized when in contact with this metal, and as a result has acquired a bad taste and could be even dangerous for health taster..

However, 2.5 thousand years is not the limit for aging of alcoholic beverages.

In 1980, during excavations in the Chinese province Siniang was found an ancient wine, Dating back to 1300 BC. That is this drink “knocked” for more than 3200 years!

Not so long ago in the excavations of the settlement in the mountains of Northern Iran had discovered the wine aged for almost 7 thousand years! However, until the present day, this drink came in the form of fossilized yellowish layer at the bottom of a clay vessel, which was found by archaeologists among the ruins of one of the ancient houses.

Preserved since the middle ages wine also have already very advanced age. And, most importantly, these intoxicating drinks, being sealed in glass bottles, preserved, in contrast to the above mentioned archaeological finds, their taste. Among these Champions of the experts called saved until the end of the twentieth century, the Johannesburg bottle wine harvest in 1648. In 1981, for her at auction in Wiesbaden, West Germany gave more then 19 000 German marks.

Some of the antiquities discovered alcohol was even able to give life to a new intoxicating beverage. For example, after the divers found off the coast of Australia, the remains of a British merchant ship, sunk during a storm in 1797, he was raised among the other artifacts, and a beer bottle. Microorganisms that remained on the sides of the bottle, experts have managed to grow yeast. And then they were used for maturation of beer with a distinctive flavor of the leaven of the eighteenth century.

Of course, try the very old wine that has kept its condition, can afford only “the rich Pinocchio”. However, there are exceptions to this rule.

Here is a concrete story, which was attended by our compatriots. In 2005, an international team of divers in the survey portion of the bottom of the Mediterranean sea near the coast in the South-East of France, stumbled upon the hull of a steam schooner that sank in these places in the fall of 1898. At inspection of premises located under the deck, in one of the cabins (apparently, it belonged to the captain or his assistant) found a wooden box. It brought to the surface, and when blaine cover, I saw underneath the line bottlenecks. “We carefully took one of the bottles, dusted off her calcareous growths, – said the participant of the expedition Kirill Petrovich. The tube is carefully filled with wax, was not damaged. When he uncorked the container, from its interior smelled of wine! The aroma was very pleasant. Tasting, which we thereupon held, confirmed that the wine is fit for consumption. Guys-the French, having tasted the “underwater drink” agreed that it for your stay in Madera.”

Just a box, raised from the sea bottom, there were 14 bottles. However, three of them were broken, but the other kept its contents for a hundred years. Specialists-sommelier consulted by members of the expedition, said at a wine auction a bottle of the vintage wine hundred years of exposure may be sold for 8 – 10 and even 15 thousand dollars. However, the divers made a decision not to pursue profits. Remaining bottles of vintage Madeira wine they uncorked a few months, meeting at a shared meal to celebrate the New year.

But in the end – the story is not alcoholic. But is also associated with the very age drinks used for meal.

An outstanding Russian physicist and the chemist Professor Heels even in the late nineteenth century, invented a special outdoor laboratory vessel with a cooling coil, a liquid which can be stored, not a port, and almost steaming. To prove the health for his wonder-bulb Heels 8 November 1897 in the presence of witnesses filled in a few of these vessels fresh chicken broth. One of the flasks survived so far, it is stored in the Moscow University of Railways. Through the glass you can see that it was indeed partially filled with some yellowish liquid. However, to ascertain whether it is a soup, scientists can’t: the coil insulate the contents of the flask from the outside world, and no flavor of the broth a century ago to smell is not possible.
