Commander of the Navy of the Russian Federation explained the tasks of nuclear submarines in the Arctic

According to the head of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Korolev, the nuclear submarine fleet of the country, accumulating in the Arctic evidence of belonging Russia’s continental shelf.
“In particular, the task of the submarine fleet is the study of the oceans in addressing critical political issue in the sphere of the evidence base for the justification of the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation on the continental shelf in the Arctic,” said the Admiral in his interview to “Echo of Moscow”.
So, in 2015, the Russian Federation has sent to the UN finalized a proposal for the extension of the limits of the continental shelf in the Arctic by joining the submarine Lomonosov ridge, which stretches in the direction of the North pole. According to international Maritime law, the state must prove the continental nature of adjacent geological formations on the ocean floor.
