The Director of the office of the international Human rights organization Human Rights Watch in Washington Sarah Morgan issued a statement in which he reported being deeply troubled in connection with the appointment of Mike Pompeo and Gina have Haspel for the positions of Secretary and CIA Director because they supported torture.
“The Senate should reject both candidates,” reads the document.
Pompeo previously said that CIA employees who used torture against prisoners in Guantanamo are not the torturers, and patriots.
Haspel has in turn led the CIA headquarters in Thailand, where in a secret prison, tortured prisoners. At the time, the European centre for constitutional rights and human rights asked German authorities to issue a warrant for the arrest Haspel in the case of the torture of Abu Zubaydah.
