Scientists at the University of Catania conducted a study, the results of which could save millions not too successful and rich people from self-flagellation and depression. They came to the conclusion that the success of a man depends not on his innate talents, intelligence and ingenuity, but just from coincidence.
According to Science Alert, researchers created a computer simulation based on real model of the distribution of money in the world, according to which 85% of world wealth owned by 10% of the world population. While qualities such as talent, intelligence, and performance on average evenly distributed among the inhabitants of the Earth.
In the study, a computer simulated model, which was presented to thousands of people from the average ability and wealth. Then, in the basic model were made random events that could be used by the same “people”. As a result, 20% of the thousands initially equal individuals after some time has captured 80% of “wealth”. The situation with variable parameters was repeated several times, but in each case the outcome was typical.
On the basis of these results, the researchers came to the conclusion that successful people are not necessarily gifted with any talent from birth, they can be the owners of the most ordinary mental faculties, but it is luck to be in the right place at the right time determines success.
From a practical point of view, the results of the study, according to its authors, may be useful when considering the effectiveness of systems of assessment of merit. The study shows that a potential winner of the particular award and candidate for the honor is not necessarily “deserve” – maybe he just got lucky.
