The defense Ministry denied the rumors about the return of Surovikino commander in Syria

The Ministry of defence issued a press release in which it denied published in the media rumors that the VC commander in chief of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Sergei Surovikin can return to Syria as commander of the group of Russian forces, replacing Colonel-General Alexander Zhuravlev. Recall that the Surovikin was in this post in June-December 2017.

“The commander of the Russian group of forces in Syria, Colonel-General Alexander Zhuravlev competently manages subordinate troops and effectively solves all the tasks in full”, – reads the statement of the Russian defense Ministry.

It also noted that now the personnel of the group under the leadership Zhuravleva engaged in combat training and assistance to the peace process in Syria.

Thus in the message it is said that the rotation of commanders of Russian forces in Syria is carried out in accordance with the plan approved by the Minister of defense every six months. Recall that Zhuravlev commanded the group from 11 December 2017. He held this position from July-December 2016

The defense Ministry also criticized the media for gullibility to rumors from anonymous Telegram channels. It should be noted that the message about the possible appointment of a City appeared February 20 at 02:54 on the tape, the state news Agency MIA “Russia today”, citing a source in the defense Ministry.
