American scientists from the University of California, first raised the sheep foetus, which contained human cells. It is expected that in the future such experiments will allow to solve the problem of shortage of donor organs.
Experts put human stem cells into the embryo of a sheep, and watched its further development. 28 days after the start of the experiment, the embryo was destroyed because it was required by the country’s limitations. However, according to experts, it is possible with high probability to say that if the experiment were continued further, it would be the birth of a full-fledged living being. It is almost no different from sheep, because only a hundredth of a percent of his cells would be “human”. Further experiments, as stated, will allow you to create animals with human bodies.
Has previously conducted similar experiments with pigs, for example, in the past reported experience in the creation of “chimeras”, the pancreas which needs to be almost completely identical to the human.
In the US experiments of this kind were allowed relatively long time, and two years ago a similar decision was made in the UK. However, these experiments continue to generate controversy. Many scientists, public figures, and especially animal rights advocates insist that such experiments are immoral and dangerous. Some of them gave them the name frankenscience (from Frankenstein – Frankenstein and science science). At the same time, other experts are convinced that the cultivation of human organs in the body of the animal will help the medicine to reach a new level. Supporters of such experiments emphasize that with the development of medicine from the doctors there is a technical opportunity to save more lives, but in order for this possibility, often lacking such organs as the liver, heart and kidneys. In the result, die each year hundreds of people waiting for transplantation, which in the presence of a greater number of donor organs could be saved.
