In the Crimea, dismantled border checkpoints: whether to wait to diversions

On the morning of 15 February, the Ukrainian media was excited about the news that the Russian military dismantled their checkpoints on the Crimean-Ukrainian border. Unexpectedly, the Ukrainians found that near the checkpoint “Kalanchak and Chaplinka” it was done a month ago, and the day before have done the same thing near the “Chongar”. However, just as the journalists began to speculate whether this is due to the retreat of the Russians from the Peninsula or Vice versa with regrouping for the invasion, in the Border Department of the FSB in the Crimea clarified.

A frame from the video.

As stated in the message Department, at checkpoints in the Crimea set the system videonablyudeniya, automatic barriers and other equipment. After that, the military presence at checkpoints is no longer necessary, so they disassemble. The Department believes that this increases the efficiency of the state border guard.

However, it is not only measures to ensure the security of the Crimean borders. At the end of 2017 Border Department of the FSB in the Crimea has signed a contract for the installation of 49.5 kilometres of fence on the border with Ukraine with a height of 2.4 meters. The transaction value amounted to about 204 million.

Ukrainian security forces also do not sit idly by. In January 2018, the Director of the Department of communication of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Ukraine Artem Shevchenko also said that the police will strengthen control over the border with the Crimea. According to him, this is due to the increased passenger traffic between the Republic and its “occupied” Peninsula, which entails a large number of offenses. The enforcer is sure that the residents of Crimea are often specially come to his country to commit serious crimes, acts of terrorism and sabotage.

Chief editor of the magazine “national defense” Igor Korotchenko told the “MK” if it is safe to leave the Russian border without the direct supervision of military:

– The border in the Crimea occurred just a few years ago, so naturally it had to be build from scratch. Roadblocks were temporary version of her protection. Now this process will be carried out on a modern technical basis, using a variety of sensors, sensors, cameras and so on. It will be a modern, civilized border in which the human factor will be minimized. At the same time, in the rear of the already formed self-sufficient grouping of troops.

This system works everywhere in Russia, but Crimea is especially important because Ukraine is constantly trying to send their spies. To do this, they can use the sea land and even the air. It is possible that saboteurs will try to get to the Peninsula with the help of gliders. In this context, the border should vigilantly guard 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
