The West has offered to Donbass 20 thousand peacekeepers led by Sweden

The Ukrainian edition of “Politnavigator”, citing its correspondent reports that the West formulated its vision of the UN peacekeeping mission, which can be introduced in the Donbass.

It will be a contingent of approximately 20 000 (maximum permissible number) of troops from countries that are not NATO members and 4,000 police officers. The mission should be headed by Sweden.

It is reported that this information was included in the report, which was the former head of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen. This report will be submitted to the international officials, including US special envoy on Ukraine, Kurt Volker.

The issue will also be discussed by senior officials of Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine during a security conference in Munich.

Richard Gowan, co-author of the report and an expert on the UN at Columbia University, believes that the mission will be involved in Brazil, which has experience of carrying out peacekeeping operations and Belarus, which trusts Russia.

He added that if it is possible in the year following the introduction of peacekeepers to hold local elections in the Donbass, then the UN forces could be left there for two years.
