Department of state: U.S. will not lift sanctions until Russia returns Crimea to Ukraine

The official representative of state Department of the United States Heather Nauert Tuesday, February 13, accused Moscow of ignoring the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the armed conflict in the Donbass, and said that punitive restrictions imposed by the US against Russia will not be lifted as long as “Russia will not return the Crimean Peninsula to Ukraine.”

“Unfortunately, Russia continues to flout the Minsk agreements, igniting a hot conflict in Ukraine, which cost more than 10 thousand casualties, including more than 2,500 civilians, and have displaced 1.6 million Ukrainians…. Working together with France and Germany, the United States continues to urge the Russian government to stop the aggression against Ukraine”, — said the speaker of the U.S. foreign policy establishment.

The representative of the State Department of the USA also stressed that sanctions against Russia will persist as long as “Russia will not fulfill its obligations under the Minsk agreements.”

“Our sanctions related to the Crimea issue will be in force as long as Russia will not return the Peninsula to Ukraine”, — said Nauert.

“Russia continues to deny its direct involvement in the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, while Russia-led forces intimidate and deny safe access of unarmed observers, the OSCE and inhibit the work of independent media and civil society. Ukraine has adopted legislation, including an Amnesty to anti-government forces and the special status for Donbass, which indicates Ukraine’s desire to implement Minskie agreement”, – concluded the representative of the state Department.
