Washington intends to complete the financing of the ISS to NASA on the line after 2024, but will not abandon the space station and is considering a scenario in which it will be able to transfer from public sector to private hands.

“The decision to stop direct Federal support ISS in 2025 doesn’t mean that the station itself will be returned from orbit by that time”, – the document says.

It is noted that the most likely representatives of the relevant industrial sector can continue to manage certain elements or functions of the ISS in a future commercial project.

NASA will extend the international and commercial partnerships over the next seven years with the aim to ensure permanent access of people and their presence in low-earth orbit, says the text.

In the draft budget for the 2019 financial year beginning in the United States on 1 October, which will publish on Monday, the US government will request $ 150 million for “development and establishment of commercial structures and opportunities” for further privatization of the ISS.

The publication believes that such plans, it is likely to face disapproval in the Congress of the United States, given that Americans spent about $ 100 billion for the construction and operation of the plant. Now NASA is studying the possibility of extending the lifetime of the plant until 2028.

We will remind that since 2011 the delivery of crews to the International space station and their return to Earth is a Russian Federation, as the Americans have cancelled their Shuttle group. The United States, leased from Russia for its astronauts seats on the spacecraft “Soyuz”, and the annual maintenance of the ISS is costing NASA in 3-4 billion dollars.
