The trial of former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili lasted in Ukraine for the last six months. Question his residence status in the country is simultaneously engaged in several courts. As said Saturday disgraced politician on air of TV company “Rustavi 2”, the Ukrainian authorities finally made a decision and have already prepared the documents for his deportation to Poland. Experts interviewed by “MK” I believe that the point for Saakashvili to put early and he will continue protests demanding the President’s resignation.

The conflict between the Ukrainian king Petro Poroshenko and his former ally, and now a dangerous opponent , the former President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili became one of the main topics in Ukraine over the last year. In 2016, Saakashvili lost the elections in Georgia, which essentially became a referendum on whether to return him to his homeland, where he is accused of abuse of power and bribery, but received a negative response. His party “United national movement” scored a total of 26.46%. In the spring of 2015, Saakashvili was Governor of the Odessa region, received the Ukrainian citizenship the day before the inauguration on may 29. The new document cost of his Georgian passport, as in Georgia it is forbidden to have dual citizenship. However, in November 2016, the politician resigned from his post as head of the region, explaining its desire to fight corruption in Ukraine.

Probably, all over the fact that about Saakashvili forgotten, but Poroshenko gave him another opportunity to stay the center of attention — deprived of its Ukrainian passports, and for quite a flimsy reason — have false information about convictions in the application for citizenship. And although at first glance, the Ukrainian President acted legally, many of this news has angered citizens took this decision as an attempt to neutralize opposition. In mid-September of last year the Ukrainian and international media vengeance wrote about the breakthrough of former President of Georgia through the Polish border to the Ukraine, where he continued to develop his political party “Movement of new forces.” And the Ukrainian government, in turn, paved the way for endless litigation as to the status of stay Saakashvili in the country.

All this time the political analysts predicted three events for the former President — deportation to Poland, extradition to Georgia, give it to a country that willing to take him and where he now lives with his family in Holland. Delaying the process against the leader of the “Movement of new forces” the scientists linked with fear of the Ukrainian government to provoke the people to take to the streets in support of the disgraced politician.

However, on Saturday said the party leader “Movement new forces,” Saakashvili soon this issue can be addressed. According to him, the migration service of Ukraine signed a package of documents on his deportation, in particular, in connection with re-admission to the country through which he entered the territory of the state in Poland. Speaking about the decision of the Ukrainian side, Saakashvili noted that he will continue his peaceful struggle for the resignation of the government, regardless of how events will develop further. He recalled that during his detention in Ukraine took to the streets of about 60 thousand people.

“MK” asked the experts whether it is possible to put an end to the Saakashvili’s case and where it leads.

Andrew Buzarov, a member of the public Council under the MFA of Ukraine:

– At the moment, the Ukrainian leadership is not prepared to take clear decisions regarding the status of Saakashvili. Any statement to this effect will cause serious resonance in the society and provoke his supporters to mass protests. The probability of the deportation policy in Poland or in any other country is extremely low. Saakashvili will be in Ukraine and to achieve through different instances of recognition of their legitimate stay on the territory of the country. It is a very serious competitor Poroshenko, now with 100% certainty we can say that between them they have developed a personal dislike. Saakashvili’s goal is to occupy a chair of the Ukrainian President or Prime Minister of the country. His principled stance — the resignation of the state leadership, so he is a threat to the entire ruling elite of Ukraine. A statement on his deportation to Poland can be explained by the fact that the former President of Georgia has learned that law enforcement agencies are preparing a plan to arrest him on the eve of serious anti-government rally, which is scheduled for February 18. Thus, the politician tried to protect themselves and strengthen the community.

Mikhail Pogrebinsky, Director of Kiev center of political researches and conflictology:

– This is a predictable decision of the Ukrainian government. He returned to where he had illegally arrived. The Ukrainian government does not want to assume responsibility for the transfer of Saakashvili in the Georgian justice and the most convenient option to send it to Poland, and Poland will have to figure out what to do with it, maybe send to Holland, where his family lives or something. So long the decision was taken because Ukraine wanted to do it once in an abbreviated program, and the United States demanded that Saakashvili acted strictly according to the law, and this process is very long. Let’s see whether the former President the request of the Ukrainian government.
