According to the official representative of the Department of State Heather Nauert, USA is concerned that the government of the Maldives in connection with the political crisis the country has introduced a state of emergency.
“The U.S. is alarmed and disappointed by the information that the President of the Maldives Abdulla Yamin decided to enter in the country state of emergency, expanding the capabilities of law enforcement agencies in the arrest and detention of suspects, banning gatherings in public places, the imposition of restrictions on departures, and which allows to partially ignore the Constitution,” — said in the state Department.
The United States also call on the Maldivian authorities and the police to act within the law, and to restore the constitutional rights of citizens and institutions of the country.
