Azerbaijan announced early presidential elections on 11 April


Extraordinary elections of the President of Azerbaijan will take place on 11 April 2018, although was to be held in October 2018. This was reported in a paper published Monday, February 5, on the official website of the President.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Monday signed a decree on the announcement of early presidential elections, which will be held April 11, 2018”, — stated in the text of the order to the Azerbaijani leader.

According to the order Aliyev, the Central election Commission to organize early presidential elections in accordance with the electoral code of the Republic.

What is the reason for the postponement of the presidential elections, is not specified.

In February 2018, the ruling party of Azerbaijan, Aliyev was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In 2016, the Parliament changed the electoral code of Azerbaijan. Was made 30 amendments, one of which States that the President shall be elected for a term of seven years.
