The main task of cosmonauts is to dismantle decommissioned receiving device and install the new receiver module broadband communication systems. Work will be carried out on the surface of the instrument compartment of service module Zvezda.

The installation of a new receptor will in the future provide round-the-clock two-way flow of information from the Russian segment of the ISS to ground stations tracking the satellites of Russian multi-relay system “Luch”. Earlier, in Soviet times, the function round-the-clock monitoring of the spacecraft carried out a whole space fleet of ships in the Indian and Atlantic oceans.

It is planned that the Misurkin and Shkaplerov will stay in space for about 7 hours.
