What was the reason for the voluntary departure of the son of Fidel Castro from life


Thursday, February 2, it became known that the son of the leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro – the 68-year-old Fidel ángel Castro Diaz-Balart – took his own life. According to the Cuban press last few months, he was under the supervision of doctors and suffered from major depression. Because of the strong resemblance with his father Fidel at home he is nicknamed Fidelito. In recent years, Castro Jr., was Vice-President of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and an Advisor to the state Council for science, which got interested in during his studies in the USSR.

Fidelito was the eldest son of Fidel Castro and only child from his brief marriage to the Mountains Diaz-Balart. The couple divorced before Fidel came to power, and the family of Diaz-Balart fled to Florida, USA. After Castro-the senior has become a national leader, Fidelito’s mother sent him to visit his father, but the boy never returned to America. Also there is another version according to which Cuban intelligence kidnapped the son of the Comandante Fidel’s mother. Perhaps this was one of the reasons why “us Cubans”, the relatives of the former leader of the revolution, took such a rigid position in relation to the management of the island of Freedom. Cousin Fidelito Mario Diaz-Balart, as a Republican Congressman from Florida, known according to CNN, his criticism of the government of Cuba. He also is a regular speaker in favour of toughening of US policy towards “the dictatorship of Castro.”

At the age of 19, in 1968, Fidel ángel Castro Diaz-Balart entered the Voronezh state University, where he studied under the fictitious name of Jose Raul Fernandez, because of the need to hide family ties with the leader of the Cuban revolution. Two years later he transferred to MSU and graduated at the specialty “nuclear physics”. Later, Castro Jr., entered the graduate school of the Institute of atomic energy in Dubna near Moscow, and even got a PhD, after graduation in the Soviet Union, Fidel angel was involved in the development and implementation of the Cuban nuclear programme.

He was the author of 11 books on nuclear energy, and in 2013 he was awarded the title of honorary Professor of Moscow state University.

While living in the USSR Fidelito he met his future wife Natalia Smirnov, in marriage, with whom he had 3 children. After the divorce from Smirnova. Fidel angel Castro Diaz-Balart married a second time to a Cuban, Maria Victoria Barreiro.

Fidel Castro passed away at the age of 90 years old in November 2016, ten years before his death, he handed over power to brother Raul. Fidelito was never an influential political figure in Cuba and claimed the role of the receiver of his uncle Raul.

“Each family member has their own destiny. As for the head of state, he was able to maintain my personal space over many years, to devote himself to the main business of his life – work. But this did not prevent the majority of the members of the family, each of us, to develop our own way”, – said Castro Jr. in 2013 in an interview with the Russian TV channel RT.

On the death of Fidel ángel Castro Diaz-Balart was announced on Cuban state television.
