Russia does not rule out a return to visa-free travel with Georgia

Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Grigory Karasin in interview to the newspaper “Kommersant” reported that the question of the return to a visa-free regime with Georgia is not easy, because in the modern world, where increasing threats to security, automatically count on the “visa reciprocity” is not necessary. He noted that Georgia for the most part unilaterally abolished visa requirements for citizens of nearly 100 countries, not only for Russia.

“However, as the Russian side repeatedly declared, we in principle do not exclude the possibility of introducing a visa-free regime with Georgia on a reciprocal basis,” – said Karasin.

At the same time he reminded that in the Pankisi gorge and Tbilisi periodically carried out a special operation on detention of terrorists, therefore, urged to cooperate to first preemptively to block all channels of terrorism and extremism.

“If we succeed in this direction, we shall be able to enter the visa-free regime,” – said Karasin.
