Silver beard: the hair of the Siberians discovered the precious metal

Precious metals in hair of residents discovered by scientists of Chemical faculty of Tomsk state University. However, to rejoice there is especially nothing: according to experts, the high content of certain elements may indicate violation of the environmental situation.

As explained “MK” head of laboratory faculty of Tomsk state University Vladimir Otmakhov, hair is a biological environment which accurately reflects the effects of elevated concentrations of chemical elements on people. Therefore, it was decided to use them for research. Control group were women and men aged 18 to 70 years, with 30 people from Tomsk and Kazakhstan Ust-Kamenogorsk, surrounded by a dense ring of non-ferrous metallurgy. The subjects cut strands of 3-4 cm from the root (in this length contains the most important information about the condition of the body over the last few months), they were analyzed to determine the presence of one or more of the 23 elements. The hair was burned in a special chamber at a temperature of 400-450°C and studied the ash residue by the method of spectral analysis.

Chemists have found that residents of cities in the body exceeded the indicators of tungsten and silver. In addition, Siberians marked a surplus of barium, aluminium and manganese and, on the contrary, the lack of iron, Nickel and copper. This is explained by the peculiarities of Tomsk drinking water and the presence of large industrial enterprises in the city.

As told “MK” Anatoly Skalny, President of the Moscow Center for biotic medicine, the value of “precious” numbers should not be exaggerated: the major impact of silver on the body is observed only during prolonged and intensive interaction with this element (for example, jewelers can change the color of the skin), and tungsten is very poorly absorbed in the body, and its biological effect is little studied. More seriously, the excess of lead — it was marked in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The excess of lead, according to the specialist, can have a negative effect on intelligence and make a person more aggressive. Also in the hair of people of Kazakhstan proved to be too much titanium, aluminum, lithium and several other elements.

In the future, scientists of chemical Department of TSU plan to find out how you can reduce the high level of certain chemicals in residents of areas with the rapid development of the industry, and intend to carry out the analysis of nature — to this end, the experts collected samples of animal hair. Chemists designate the technology element of the study of hair a great future: they believe that with its help it is possible not only to obtain complete information on the current human condition and the environment around him, but, for example, to evaluate his predisposition to various diseases.
