The candidate in presidents of the Russian Federation Ksenia Sobchak addressed an open letter to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, in which he demanded the immediate release from detention of the head of the Chechen branch “the Memorial” Ouba Titieva. The human rights activist is in prison on charges of drug possession.

Sobchak noted that Titiev a week in jail for “fraudulent charges”, and rebuked Kadyrov for the review of the human rights defenders as “people without a nation and kind.”
“Well don’t you see: people defending the rights of others — such as the late Natalia Estemirova, Lyudmila Alekseeva, Zoya Svetova, Oub Titiev, is the best, most important kind! And I’m sure that it will ever need their protection,” wrote the candidate.
In addition, she recalled the ailing ex-Governor of the Kirov region Nikita Belykh, as well as about the ex-Director of “Gogol-center” Alexei Malopolski that have not yet been convicted by the court. “The salvation of specific people suffering right now can and must become a common goal for our efforts”, – says Ksenia.
Oub Titiev headed the human rights center “memorial” after the murder of Natalia Estemirova. The human rights activist was arrested on 9 January in Chechnya. During the search of his car police allegedly found a bag with marijuana.
Titiev pleads not guilty and insists that the drugs were planted on him. This provocation, according to him, connected with his professional activities.
Commenting on the arrest Titieva broadcast evening news Chechen STRC Grozny, Kadyrov said that police caught “the addict by marijuana,” and criticized international organizations for support. He called defenders of the people without a nation, clan and religion.
