Many people fear that to reheat food in microwave ovens dangerous, but proven that this statement is a myth. However, these appliances can bring harm to humanity in some other way — experts from the University of Manchester in the UK came to the conclusion that microwave ovens significantly increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the air, thereby provoking global warming.
The microwave in the European Union are sold more actively than any other types of furnaces, and it is expected that by 2020 their number on the territory of the European Union will reach 135 million. However, experts note that until now, the influence of microwave ovens on the environment has not been the subject of thorough research. In his scientific work, the experts decided to fill this gap.
Calculations carried out by scientists have shown that now the microwave oven only in countries of the European Union lead to annual release to the atmosphere millionov 7.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide, comparable to emissions of 6.8 million cars. In addition, these appliances together consume 9.4 terawatts of energy per hour in order to obtain this amount of energy, the three major gas power plants will be required to work throughout the year.
Also, experts say that many Europeans are buying a new microwave oven more often, often even before will no longer work the old — for example, to become an owner of a more modern-looking model. This leads to the fact that microwiki, along with some other household appliances, lead to the emergence of a growing number of debris.
Thus, the use of microwave ovens leads to global warming, depletion of natural resources and increase the amount of waste that is causing environmental damage in many ways. Modern methods of control do not allow to solve this problem, experts say.
