Non-governmental organization Freedom House has prepared the next rating that indicates the level of development of democracy in various countries of the world for 2017. The organization has divided all countries into three groups: free, partly free and not free. Russia and Belarus were the only European “unfree States”.

The authors of the rating, given that the Kremlin constantly seeks to expand its influence in the world, took Russia to the category of free States, there were also Belarusian neighbors. While Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia is recognized partially free.
As a result, Russia is among the countries of the former USSR took a position between Belarus and Azerbaijan behind in global rankings, countries such as Afghanistan, Algeria, Venezuela, Iraq and Myanmar.
