Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika said that in 2018 in front of his office face a new challenge — the fight against protests.
“In the coming year, the Prosecutor General said at the ceremony in honor of the 296-th anniversary of the establishment of the state office of public Prosecutor, — before the prosecutors have a new goal: rule of law during campaign for elections of the President of the Russian Federation. Avoiding oversight by means of social tension, uncoordinated public actions and other violations that threaten stability and security.”
Earlier the Prosecutor’s office has repeatedly tried to intervene in the protest: in particular, she reported on the illegality of the protest on 12 June, to which Alexey Navalny outlined next anti-corruption campaign.
