Sentenced to three years in prison, Mr. Saakashvili called the verdict illegal

Mikhail Saakashvili does not agree with the decision of the court of Tbilisi in absentia sentenced him to three years in prison for the pardon of police officers punished for murder. The case was 2009, when Saakashvili was President of Georgia.

On the page in Facebook the politician wrote that the sentencing court is under the control of “the largest private shareholder of Gazprom, Ivanishvili”, a decision contrary to the norms of national and international legislation.

The right to a pardon of the President was used in relation to 133 ex-servicemen, said Saakashvili. He stresses that this right is not limited.

“It also says that the Georgian authorities have not found me for 5 years, nothing substantial: no no evidence of corruption or other offences,” the politician said, calling the sentence politically motivated.

According to Saakashvili, the “oligarchic” Ukraine’s authorities are against it simultaneously against the fighter with oligarchs and corruption.
