Official Berlin did not support voiced by the President of the United States opinion about the necessity of moving the capital of Israel to Jerusalem. Angela Merkel, commenting on Washington’s position, expressed by trump at the White house yesterday, said that the status of Jerusalem should be discussed in the framework of the “two-state solution”.
On Wednesday evening Moscow time, U.S. President Donald trump, speaking at the White house, said that it was time to move the capital of Israel to Jerusalem. Trump also noted that they were given appropriate instructions on the preparation for the transfer.
The reaction of the German authorities was not long in coming: the quote of Angela Merkel published on Twitter her spokesman Steffen Zibe. The German Chancellor expressed his disagreement with the position of Washington and stressed that “the status of Jerusalem should be discussed in the framework of the “two-state solution””. According to Merkel the issue of the status of the city is the key point of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
