Today, the Institute of biomedical problems of RAS ended semnadtsatiletny Russian-American experiment SIRIUS. As told the head of the laboratory of the Institute of biomedical problems Vadim Gushchin, simulated flight to the moon was successful, and the crew coped with the tasks that were placed upon him.
Towards the end of the experiment, the participants were required to work 38 hours without a break for sleep. Although such a long period of wakefulness began to affect the efficiency and speed of tasks, overall it did not prevent the operation of the crew.
Interestingly, with this task the female half of the crew have done it better — at least, the two girls showed the most significant results during the test on cognitive ability, which took place at the completion of the 38-hour “working day”.
In General the expert noted that “mixed” the crew demonstrated great unity, than the crews, consisting solely of men or solely of women. The participants managed to work together despite gender differences and that they were not familiar. According to Guschin, helped such rituals as watching movies in the evening and further discussion.
International experiment on the simulation of flying in deep space SIRIUS (SIRIUS, Scientific International Research in Unique Terrestrial Station — scientific research in the unique ground complex) was launched on 7 November. He faked going to the moon, fly around it and return. In the framework of the project it is planned to conduct three experiments, each of which will be longer than previous one: one will take place in 2018, the last 4 months, the other in 2019 and it will take 8 months and the third should be held for 12 months in 2020-2022.
