According to the politician, the color of headgear symbolizes “the color of blood spilled in the battles for Ukraine.”

Poroshenko reminded that Ukraine plans to become NATO member. “So we are, incidentally, introduced another standard of the Alliance, membership in which we have the firm intention to lead Ukraine”, — he said.

The Ukrainian leader also said that the berets will have a new name: instead of the coat of arms of Ukraine the dome of a parachute with outstretched wings of the Archangel Michael and the sword with a wavy blade in the center.

In addition, Poroshenko was renamed the airborne forces of the country, refusing abbreviations airborne. This arm will receive a new name — the Airborne assault troops of the Armed forces of Ukraine. “This is more consistent with the goals in the current environment, it’s part of Ukrainization to replace the Soviet-Russian”, — he explained.

Ukraine removed the symbols of Soviet power in the framework of the implementation of the law on de-communization, which the Verkhovna Rada adopted in April 2015. In particular, the authorities demolished the monument to Soviet Communist leaders, renamed streets and squares that were named after Soviet leaders.
