Experts have calculated how the motorcycles more dangerous than cars

While many people fear to fly on an airplane, has long been known that this method of travel is associated with significantly less risk than a trip by car or even by foot. At the same time, motorcycles have a reputation of transport, dangerous to life and health of its owner, is well deserved. New arguments in favor of this statement submitted by the canadian experts from the University of Toronto.

The experts have collected information about people admitted to hospitals of the province of Ontario after the accident in the period from 2007 to 2013. Among them, 281 826 people had an accident on a motorcycle, and 26 831 – on a motorcycle. As you might expect, the latter were on average younger, and among them was dominated by men (81 percent). As it turned out, the accident involving motorcycle in 10 times often led to serious injury, 3 times more often than for injuries overall and 5 times more often – the death of a man. On average, medical care person, who was wounded during a drive, costs about 6 times less than in the case of a motorcyclist.

Experts say that in the past similar studies were conducted mainly on the basis of data obtained from one hospital, so the data obtained in the new analysis can be considered more objective. Although statistics were compiled on the basis of information obtained solely within Canada, the authors of scientific work tend to assume that they are valid for other developed countries.

According to scientists, the safety of a motor vehicle as a whole increases over time, but for motorcycles, as you can see, this trend does not apply. Experts hope that the findings will serve as a signal for motorcyclists who need to take extra care on the roads, and for the manufacturers of this type of transport, whose task is to ensure its maximum security.

The study was published in the academic journal Canadian Medical Association Journal.
