Erdogan has threatened the authorities of Iraqi Kurdistan for the referendum

Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan during a speech in Erzurum province on the North-East of the country has threatened the authorities of Iraqi Kurdistan for the referendum on independence.

“The regional authorities in Northern Iraq have taken a step without thinking about our country, which gave them full support for a long time. So they will have to pay for it,” according to Erdogan’s statement to the newspaper Hürriyet.

The Turkish leader believes that instead of an independent Kurdistan here in the end there will be a new wound. He recalled that the plebiscite did not take into account the views of ethnic minorities such as the Turkomans and Arabs.

“We are in close contact with neighboring countries, Iraq and Iran, and prepared for any negative consequences,” – said Erdogan.
