The head of the Department for external Church relations of the ROC Metropolitan Hilarion met Pope Francis and told him about Ukraine adopted laws aimed at “discrimination” of the Russian Orthodox Church in this country.

We will remind that now in Ukraine we consider three is devoted to the religions of the bill. The first one gives the community the right to independently change its Charter, and two others dedicated to giving special status to religious organizations that control centers are in the aggressor countries (the situation directly concerns the Russian Orthodox Church and related UOC-MP).

As stated on the website of the Patriarchate, “the efforts of the authors of two of these bills are intended to declare the Ukrainian Orthodox Church the national Church of Ukraine, which it is, uniting the majority of Orthodox believers of the country, and foreign religious organization, whose activities require special coordination with the authorities”.

The bill is about self-regulation of religious communities, according to Hilarion, “seeks to legitimize the practice of hostile takeovers of churches of the canonical Church, which resulted in the seizure of more than 40 churches”.

However, Patriarchy does not explain the reasons why Britain found it necessary to talk about the situation in Ukraine to the Pope: let us recall that no Pope has never been in Russia, have actively resisted this in the ROC.
