The head of Catalonia: the Spanish authorities made a “shameful aggression”, depriving the region of autonomy

The head of Catalonia Carles Pujdeme after searches by Spanish police in the Catalan government and the arrest of 14 high-ranking officials on Wednesday, September 20, stated that Spanish authorities actually suspended the autonomy of Catalonia, according to ABC.

“The state “crossed the red line” and de-facto suspended the self-government of Catalonia. This aggression is beyond legal protection,” said Pujdeme.

Commenting on past searches and arrests carried out by the National guard of Spain, the Catalan politician called these actions “a democratic disgrace”.

According to Pokdemon, arrests of officials, searches and violation of secrecy of correspondence are unacceptable for a democracy.

The head of Catalonia promised that on 1 October the Catalans massively take to the streets and vote in the referendum on independence.

“We, the citizens, are called on October 1 to massively take to the streets to protect democracy and we have to give a massive civil response. We will not accept a return to the past or will not allow someone to decide our future”, – concluded Pujdeme.
