The company said that the test operation of the branch zhuravka – Millerovo continues. This will allow to check the readiness of the railway infrastructure, and prepare for locomotive crews.
The first groups to try out the new plot has moved grain, iron ore and building materials. After the freight trains will begin to run and passenger trains. The start date of the Russian Railways promised to report later.
The construction of the new railroad began in 2014 after the deterioration of relations between Russia and Ukraine. Electrified double-track railway passes through the territory of the Voronezh and Rostov regions and the need to connect Central Russia with the black sea coast.
The road, the length of which is 137 kilometers, features a large number of artificial structures: it has five bridges, a viaduct, four road underpasses, said RIA Novosti.
Before the construction of the mainline train EN route from the Central Federal district in Rostov oblast, double-crossed the border with Ukraine in the Luhansk region.
Professor of the Russian University of transport (MIIT), Anatoly Vasilyev believes that the need for the construction detours dictated not only by political considerations but also a desire to make the life of passengers easier.
“Transitions from Russian territory into Ukrainian and back created problems for railroad workers, passengers, who had twice to pass customs inspection and create delays in the promotion of goods. It was therefore decided on the construction of the straightened portion of the way,” — said the expert on radio Sputnik.
