Matvienko commented on the position of the state Department of peacekeepers in the Donbass

The head of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, while in Ashgabat, commented on the statement by the chief press service of the U.S. Department of state Heather Nauert that UN peacekeepers should be placed on the Russian-Ukrainian border, reports TASS.

“No logic in this proposal, I do not see. We were talking about that today on the territory of Donbass, on the line of contact operates the OSCE mission. And peacekeepers are needed to ensure the safety of the OSCE, because the OSCE has no possibility of armed guards for those employees who participate in this mission”, – said Matvienko.

She also recalled that the meaning of the Russian proposals was to withdraw heavy weapons, and then to introduce peacekeepers to the contact line to stop an armed confrontation.

“And if someone begins to dictate any other terms, they do not understand what is happening in the conflict zone”, – she stated.

Matvienko added that those who want to “surround the residents of the breakaway republics of Donbass barbed wire and destroy just those people, I think this idea none shall pass.”
