Defense Ministry: relations with NATO will be restored in the next two years

Russia will restore the previous format of relations with NATO in the next year or two. This statement was made Deputy Minister of defence of the Russian Federation Alexander Fomin in an interview with German journalists. The Deputy head of the Russian defense Ministry also noted that the joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises “West-2017” are purely defensive in nature and no “intrusion” is not planned.

Moscow will establish the previous format of relations with NATO in the next year or two. So says the Deputy Minister of defense of Russia Alexander Fomin. In conversation with journalists of the German edition of Deutsche Welle, the Deputy Minister expressed hope for a speedy return to dialogue in the framework of the Council Russia-NATO.

“We do not wish our cooperation remained antediluvian. I am sure that we will return our relations with NATO and return to the fine form of interaction, as the Council Russia – NATO”, — said the Deputy head of the Russian military.

In an interview Fomin also said the exercises “West-2017” and to dispel fears that they are preparing for the alleged invasion of the adjacent territory. He also expressed the view that the forces of the Alliance located at the Russian border is not due to the maneuvers of the Russian Armed forces.

“First, that NATO is at our borders. You may notice that Russia has placed troops at the borders of Germany or France. Who is the driving force? Let’s look at what is happening on the other side of military exercises “West-2017″ is not a reason for NATO to deploy troops at the Russian border”, — said the Deputy Minister of defence.
