Received American coal, Poroshenko said, a “tool” lost Russia

“I welcome the first shipment of American coal to Ukraine, delivered in accordance with my agreement with President trump,” wrote Poroshenko in his Twitter.

He added that this is an important contribution to ensuring the energy security “of our country”

In addition, said the Ukrainian President, Russia is thereby “irrevocably” lost another tool for energy blackmail.

The United States sent the first batch of coal to Ukraine in late August. However, experts had already expressed doubts relative of the promised volumes.

In particular, the expert of Institute of energy strategies Yuriy Korolchuk said that the U.S. produces only 2 million tonnes of high quality anthracite, which mostly goes to the needs of the domestic market.

However, even if we imagine that Ukraine will receive the promised 700 thousand tons of coal per year — this is still not enough to cover the deficit caused by the rejection of fuel from the Donbass and Russia.
