Merkel compared the “annexation” of Crimea with the division of Germany

The Federal Republic of Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel reminded the public the story of the unification of Germany after the statement of the leader of the German Free democratic party of Germany, Christian Lindner, who suggested to member States of the European Union to “close their eyes” on the accession of Crimea to Russia, reports the Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung.

According to the German Chancellor, the “annexation” of the Peninsula is unacceptable to accept the same, as it was impossible to accept the division of Germany in those difficult times.

“I think: what would have happened if us then in East Germany would be such an attitude, under the motto “Germany divided, there is nothing to change,” said Merkel.

The current Chancellor, who herself is a native of East Germany, was considered “courageous” the position of those brave politicians in the GDR who sought to reunite with Germany.
