“Worthy of study” called Russia’s proposal to place UN peacekeeping mission in Eastern Ukraine, state Department spokesman Heather Nauert. Any such force should have a broad mandate to enforce peace in Ukraine, said Nauert, pointing also to the need for placing peacekeepers not only on the demarcation line, and throughout the conflict zone.
The Russian side proposed the idea in the Donbass peacekeepers of the United Nations “worthy of study”. This was stated by state Department spokesman USA Heather Nauert. He also noted that such forces should be given more authority to ensure peace in the region.
In Vladimir Putin’s proposal, which was made on Tuesday, peacekeepers must be only on the demarcation line between the self-proclaimed republics and Kiev-controlled territories only with one purpose – the protection of OSCE observers. To develop the appropriate draft resolution was entrusted to the Ministry of foreign Affairs. After which the document will be submitted for consideration to the UN Security Council.
Wednesday on the proposal already accepted in Germany. The German government has supported the initiative of the Russian leader to send in the Donbass UN peacekeepers, noting that further evaluation is necessary to wait for more information about this idea.
According to the Deputy official representative of the government of Germany Ulrike Demmer, Russia’s proposal is a “step” leading to the rejection of anti-Russian sanctions, however, the complete release will follow soon after the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
