“The question in the evidence base”: why Switzerland refused to return the “gold Yanukovych”

The Swiss foreign Ministry demanded from Kiev evidence that was found in their country of 500 kilograms of gold really belong to the person close to the “family Yanukovych” and it was stolen from Ukraine. Without an appropriate judicial decision on return of precious metal is not out of the question, stressed in diplomacy.

The gold found is estimated to about 70 million CHF 4.2 billion. However, this amount may change depending on currency fluctuations and other factors. On the eve of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said that he knows who stole the money of the Republic, but cannot yet name him, so as not to harm the investigation. At the same time in Switzerland said that Kiev leads work to return these assets, but to complete need more time.

As told “MK” Director of the Institute of global strategies Vadim Karasev, such finds can be made a lot more, the question is, will it be possible to get them back: “Now in Kiev there is a trial of Viktor Yanukovych in the course of which may emerge the episode with the gold. Perhaps in time all the gold was taken by his son Alexander. If the Swiss court is satisfied with the decision of the Ukrainian Themis, he will return. At the same time, this case may be another kindled and soon extinguished the candle of hope Ukrainian society for justice. However, I do not exclude that similar finds could be made a lot more, considering how much of the wealth amassed Yanukovych, who was attracted to the luxurious life of the heyday of the French nobility Louis XIV. The question in the evidence base”.
