Scientists have found a new way to combat bark beetles

A new, ecological way of dealing with beetles-bark beetles found scientists of the Biological Institute of Tomsk state University. Instead of chemicals they proposed to handle the attack of pests trees electromagnetic waves with a frequency identical to the frequency… own the IPS.

As reported by “MK” in TSU, a new method was recently tested on the Ussuri polygraph — aggressive pest, brought from the Far East which time a few times per season and breed for a few years to completely destroy the tree. With the help of a special device specialists recorded the frequency of the radiation hungry bark beetle on digital media, and then periodically broadcast to test forest plots. The results showed that processed this way areas the number of bark beetles decreased in the two to three times compared with the control, not treated with electromagnetic waves.

This effect is due to the fact that potential pests are portable they perceive information (the frequency of the radiation hungry rivals) as a signal that this natural niche is already taken.

Except for the beetle similar tests were carried out on the clamp — borne encephalitis and Lyme disease. Their results are now being analysed by scientists.
