The head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker argued with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on the Square belonging to the EU and NATO. According to him, currently Ukraine has no relation neither to the one nor to the other Association.
The President of the European Commission, speaking at the meeting of the heads of the EU diplomatic missions in Brussels, said that in the world today are 60 wars, with not one of them touched on the territory of Europe. “If you do not take the Ukraine,” noted Jean-Claude Juncker, explaining that the Square is not a European country in terms of its membership in the European Union, reports TASS.
“I saw my friend, the President Poroshenko a few days ago said, look, Ukraine is already almost of the EU and NATO. However, at the moment it is neither one nor the other,” – said the official. In his opinion, it was important that everyone knew it.
Meanwhile, Juncker urged the EU to consider steps to improve relations with Russia, as the security of the European Union in the next century cannot be achieved without the participation of Moscow, reports “Interfax”. The head of the European Commission compared the area of EU — 5.5 million square kilometers, Russia is 17.5 million square kilometers. “Any questions?”, – he turned to the audience.
We will remind, on August 26 Poroshenko during a speech at the world Congress of Ukrainians said that Ukraine and beyond there are politicians who do not believe in the prospect Square in the European Union and NATO. Ukrainian President in absentia answered the skeptics by promising to overcome the barriers. Poroshenko expressed confidence that Kiev will fulfill the criteria to apply for membership in both organizations.
