The US has not allowed Ukraine to vosstanavlivat nuclear weapons

The United States recommends that Ukraine remain within the framework of the Budapest Memorandum. Washington believes that the recovery of nuclear weapons will not lead to anything good, and warn Kiev from this step. This statement was made by the special representative of the United States Ukraine Kurt Volker in an interview to Ukrainian TV channel.

The United States believes that Ukraine should forget about their own nuclear program and advised to remain within the framework of the Budapest Memorandum. According to the document, Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons, having received guarantees of the world community integrity.

Attempts to restore nuclear status will not benefit Kiev, said the special representative of the US state Department in Ukraine with Kurt Volker. This opinion he expressed in an interview with Ukrainian journalists, calling the initiative “a bad decision”.

“If Ukraine joined the countries that have renounced nuclear weapons, this would not be a good solution. I don’t think nuclear weapons would be something positive for Ukraine. I would not like to see Ukraine again revived the process,” — said the American envoy.

Looking back in 1994, Walker called the Budapest Memorandum the right decision, adding that the process of restoring Ukraine’s sovereignty continues.

“Now I see that it was the right decision in 1994 with the Budapest Memorandum. And we continue to work on development of Ukraine as a successful state, restore its sovereignty,” said Walker.
