The German government considered it a closed issue of reparations to Poland for the damage caused to the country during the Second world war. The Polish authorities argued that the compensation may run into billions of Euro.
In a press-service of the government of Germany stressed that the country’s position on war reparations to Poland remains unchanged. “You can read about it in the Protocol of the government’s briefing on 2 August, when this topic was last raised,” – said RIA Novosti, the official said, adding that it is “fundamental position” of Berlin.
Earlier the Deputy of the official representative of the government of Germany Ulrike Demmer recognized that Berlin is definitely responsible for the Second world in moral, political and financial terms. However, she stressed that the issue of German reparations to Poland was finally settled in the past on the political and legal level.
On the eve of Prime Minister of Poland Beata Szydlo said that getting from Germany war reparations consider in Warsaw the question of justice. “We are victims of that damage did not yet been compensated,” she said.
Note that Poland refused compensation for damage in 1953. In the early 1990s the German government sent to Warsaw compensation in the form of a 500-million tranche in German marks and about 2 billion marks for Polish prisoners and victims of Nazi forced labour programmes, informs “the Russian newspaper”.
