As reported in SFU, the pedestrian navigation system does not depend on radio waves nor from the weather, requires no antennas, and to determine the coordinates of the location even where you cannot use traditional satellite navigation systems.
In the new system the location of a person is determined by accurate definition of the traversed path with the help of special devices built into shoes: accelerometers, gyroscope and even magnetometer – sensor Earth’s magnetic field. On the basis of sensor measuring data taking into account the initial data about the starting point of the route, the device calculates the location of the user and its coordinates are displayed in a special mini-screen.
The effectiveness of the developed system for personal navigation was tested during a series of tests, which included walking at an average speed along a closed path. Error location does not exceed 2.5 %. In the future a pedestrian system can be implemented as individual equipment for the military, rescue workers, geologists.
By the way, the measuring unit with built-in sensors in very compact and can be located not only in the sole of the Shoe, where the first thing put its developers, but also on hand in the form of a bracelet, on the chest, on the belt or on the head of the user.
