Participants of the “Normandy Quartet” on Tuesday evening held a telephone conversation, during which supported the expected decision of the contact group on settling the situation in the conflict zone in the East of Ukraine “about the announcement of the ceasefire on the occasion of the beginning of the school year.” This is stated in the agreed joint statement of the leaders of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine.
The idea of a new truce in the Donbas since September 1, was supported by the leaders of “Norman Quartet”. This is stated in the press service of the Kremlin and the official representative of the German government Steffen Seibert.
According to the report, the presidents of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine held yesterday evening, telephone calls, during which called for a truce in the conflict region on the occasion of the new academic year. This decision has to be made on Wednesday, August 23, the Trilateral contact group.
“They expressed clear support for the expected on August 23 the decision of the Trilateral contact group for establishing the ceasefire in connection with the beginning of the school year”, — stated in the message Seibert.
The Kremlin said that the leaders of “Norman Quartet” we hope the ceasefire will ensure the safety of students and the total population of the region and improve the situation in the Donbass as a whole.
