The first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk called the cause of the conflict between Kiev and Moscow. In his opinion, the deterioration of relations was due to the fact that Russia wanted “to strangle in embraces” the neighboring country.

Kravchuk during a speech at the international round table “Ukraine in the modern world. The end of the first quarter of independence” to speculate about the influence that he believes Russia has had on the Square, UNIAN reports.
“Russia 150 years of fighting. She created intelligentsia of the war and pressure. Other she doesn’t know. She loved Ukraine until then, until she was lying under her. As soon as Ukraine was on its feet and said let’s go to the other side, Russia has begun to think how to strangle us,” said the politician.
“They are all the same. Who is worse who is better. But basically the question is for Ukraine to be with Russia. Do not let go in his arms to strangle him. This is the main issue of Russian life today,” the politician summed up.
In late July, Kravchuk said that independent authorities have lost control over the territories of Donbass and Crimea due to the fact that the old ruling elite were not able to negotiate with the opposition.
According to him, if parties to the political confrontation in Ukraine has managed to reach a compromise, then most likely, it was possible to avoid armed conflict in the South-East, and the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
