As stated by the envoy in an interview with radio Sputnik, the White house statement about the need for new sanctions against Russia did not create a definite picture in the eyes of Europeans. In the end, the EU managed to smooth out the “some corners,” reports RIA Novosti.
As an example, Chizhov mentioned the situation with Russian gas pipelines. So, according to the diplomat, thanks to the “educational work” of the EU representatives with the Americans the verb “shall” (must) in some documents has been replaced by the verb “may” (may).
In addition, the final version from 10 to 33 percent have been raised strap valid Russian participation in international energy projects. But it said Chizhov, does not apply to the “Nord stream — 2” and other potential major projects.
The diplomat expressed confidence that before the return of EU sanctions the US will not come, despite the loss of European business. In his opinion, the debate will likely go on to haggling of any exceptions to the law on anti-Russian sanctions.
Earlier, the President of the United States Donald trump approved a bill on new restrictive measures against Russia. The document, in particular, provides resistance to the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2”.
Foreign Minister of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, called the new sanctions are illegal, noting that with their help, Washington wants to push on the European market for American liquefied natural gas. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that Brussels would defend the economic interests of the EU.
