The USSR together with Germany is responsible for starting the Second world war, to such conclusion the Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski. In an interview with Wpolityce, the Polish Minister said that the Soviet Union “, together with Germany, attacked” in his country. These words Waszczykowski said in response to a request for comment on application of the Russian Ambassador Sergey Andreev that Poland should maintain the monuments to Soviet soldiers in gratitude for the liberation from Nazism.

In its commentary, the Polish foreign Minister also expressed the view that the history of the Polish-Soviet and Polish-Russian relations does not begin in 1945.

“I would first of all have adjusted this historical narrative, because it is impossible to start the history of Polish-Soviet, Polish-Russian relations since 1945, with the liberation from German occupation,” — said Waszczykowski, adding that, in his opinion, the Soviet Union “very much contributed to the outbreak of the Second world war.”

The Polish foreign Minister is sure that waging war with Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union “conducted its own interests, because at that time, for several years he was the victim of German aggression”.
