According to the Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan, his compatriots have no reason to travel in the “annexed” Crimea “occupied” Donbass or Russia. The Minister said he always advocated a complete break of transport communication with Moscow, and the Ukrainians should rather shift to the European Union, with which the Republic has abolished visa regime. The exception may be only travel to their relatives in Russia. Is it possible such a gap, “MK” has found out from the experts.
It is noteworthy that according to the Federal tourism Agency in 2016, 1.8 million Russians visited Ukraine, and in 2015 — 1.65 million. In turn, the flow of Ukrainian tourists in Russia, according to the same Agency in 2015 to $ 8.9 million, and in 2016 — 8.5 million.
However, the Russian Union of travel industry believe that in 2014 the tourist flow from Russia to Ukraine came to a virtual standstill, and those who are considered the officials go either to relatives, or at work. With regard to data from the Ukrainian side, the official Kiev insists that Ukrainians are almost completely refused to rest in the Crimea. Of the total flow of tourists on the Peninsula, only 5% are citizens of the Republic. However, do not go to Ukrainians and to the European Union since the entry into force “bezveze” they have used only 162 thousand people.
Is it possible to completely stop human flows between the two countries, “MK” has found out from Andrew BUZAROVA, a member of the public Council of the MFA of Ukraine:
– To divert Ukrainians from Russia will not be easy, because they go there not only to relatives but also for work. Without creating artificial barriers on the part of official structures, the existing flow is not sharply reduced. In fact, to travel to Russia ceased only those people who believe it is impossible for ethical reasons because of the situation in Crimea and the Donbass. The majority of Ukrainian politicians and experts, in reality do not support the idea of a full closure of the Ukrainian-Russian border.
I also don’t think that Russia will go to some tough measures in relation to Ukrainian citizens. On the contrary, Moscow is moving towards easing relations, in particular the amendments on simplification of obtaining Russian citizenship.
As for the immediate application of the Omelyan, he just expressed his personal opinion. This official does not reflect the position of foreign Minister, Prime Minister or President of Ukraine. His personal point of view on a complete break with Russia supports only a minority of the Ukrainian society. If this were not so, we would have all witnessed mass demonstrations demanding the severance of diplomatic relations and so on. But nothing of the kind, as, for example Kharkiv region historically linked with the Belgorod oblast, and Donetsk oblast — Rostov.
