The great Ukrainian wall: on the implementation of the project will take decades and millions

The construction of the great Ukrainian wall on the border with Russia continues. Though the initiator of its construction Arseniy Yatsenyuk does not play a major role in the politics of the Square, but his idea still lives. Millions are spent, but that’s just a result not yet seen.

The head of the state border service of Ukraine Petro Cigital said that the Agency expected to receive in three years 2 billion 194 million hryvnia for the construction, but left half. For the years 2015-2016 for the project “the Wall” was allocated about 600 million hryvnia, which is less than the stipulated Planum. In 2017 for the construction of anti-tank ditches, barbed wire and observation posts should be about 500 million hryvnia.. Initially, the annual budget had provided only 200 million, but after review of the financial document in Kiev decided to add another three hundred.

Despite the reduced pace of funding money for the project was spent not small, but it was unsuccessful. Over a billion hryvnias was able to build only 275 kilometers of anti-tank ditches, 47 kilometers of control strips 84 kilometers of fences and 180 kilometers of lateral roads. Considering the total length of the Russian-Ukrainian border (1974 km), the pace of construction leaves much to be desired — tank area ready by 14 percent, and the fence is less than 4 percent. At this rate, the construction of the “Wall” will end, at best, 20 years.

Ideally, the Ukrainian establishment wants to see at the border “insurmountable strength.” This was back in may, said Secretary of national security Council and defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov. In Kiev planned that the border should be equipped with anti-tank ditches, watchtowers, security alarm and reference of the boundary points. Construction would cost about 4 billion hryvnia, and end in 2018.

It should be noted that not all Ukrainians are enthusiastic about the idea of disgraced ex-Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Many people not only criticized the construction of the wall, which takes a huge amount of the budget and implementation of the project. In 2016, the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Borislav Bereza compared the fence with a garden fence that will not stop even a wild rabbit.

Deputy head of the Institute of CIS Vladimir ZHARIKHIN believes that the implementation of the project “the Wall” will last eternity, as it is beneficial to Kiev.

– How can so easy and fast to finish so easy, Patriotic project, which fully complies with the policies of the party Petro Poroshenko? It will last forever. First will be a long time to build the wall and then maybe we will build some kind of Outpost, like the Badaling section of the great wall of China, which will guide tourists. Kiev will continue to pour huge amount of money for the project because it is profitable. The Chinese built a wall thousands more years, so the great Ukrainian wall, if you can call it that, will be built soon. Though Yatsenyuk and went to America, but his work in Ukraine is still living.
