Germany will be protected from the influence of the new anti-Russian US sanctions


The foreign Minister of Germany Sigmar Gabriel stated that the European Union intends to defend against anti-Russian sanctions of the United States, under the pretext that the Washington industrial policy in their own interests. Brussels is waiting on that Donald trump would consult with European colleagues on the issue of increased restrictions, the official said.

Foreign Minister of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, said in an interview with the newspaper Rheinische Post that the sanctions pressure needed from the point of view of overcoming the Ukrainian crisis, but all parties must work together.

The United States also have industrial policies under the slogan “America first”, disguised under the sanctions, the official said. According to him, European officials will protect against this kind of policy, with a focus on the interests of Washington.

Gabriel noted that “there is still time”: U.S. President Donald trump has not yet made a decision about tightening the sanctions regime against Russia. “The law stipulates, in any case, prior consultation with us, the Europeans, before that can happen,” – said the head of the German foreign Ministry. Gabriel added that is in close contact with U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson on this issue, reports TASS.

Note that even in mid-June, the head of the German diplomatic Agency harshly criticized the draft of new US sanctions against Russia. The politician expressed confidence that the sole purpose of economic constraints is to try to push on the European market for American liquefied natural gas.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate approved a bill on new restrictive measures against Russia. The document, in particular, provides resistance to the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2”. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the law on sanctions “rudeness” and an attempt to use geopolitical advantages of the United States.
