China to open first foreign military base under the “nose” of the Americans

China solemnly opened the first foreign military base on the territory of the East African state of Djibouti. In Beijing said that it will be used for peacekeeping operations in the region.

The ceremony was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the founding of the people’s liberation army of China. In honor of the anniversary, Chinese President XI Jinping issued a congratulatory speech.

Beijing describes its first military base abroad as an object of logistics. As previously reported the Agency “Xinhua”, the base is built for Chinese military participation in peacekeeping operations in the region and for humanitarian aid in Africa and Western Asia. In addition, it will be held military exercises.

According to TASS, Djibouti is on the East coast of Africa and occupies a strategic position at the crossroads of major sea trade routes. Currently, the country has military bases of the United States, France and Japan.
