Us military scientists: Russia is building in Syria, an Outpost against NATO


American scientists from the Institute for the study of war concluded that Russia supports the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad due to the fact that it strives to strengthen its weight in the confrontation with the Alliance, according to Newsweek.

According to them, Russia and the Western military Alliance has for many years involved in the international arms race, accusing each other. “Coming to the aid of his old ally in the middle East, Russia, probably, had secured a new strategic hit on the extremely competitive European theatre of action” —the newspaper notes.

According to American military researchers, the degree of Russia reinforcing troops on bases in Tartus and Latakia in Syria, far in excess of what is required to combat terrorists. According to the newspaper, Russia’s actions from the beginning show that its purpose is to oppose NATO and to put the southern borders of the Alliance in a state of insecurity.

Putin sets long-term military presence in the Mediterranean sea partly in order to counter the freedom of action of the United States and to keep the southern flank of NATO at risk, says the report.
